These Banana Oatmeal Cookies are hands down the best banana flavored cookie I've ever had. Not only are they really moist and chewy for times, but they're unmistakably banana-y.

Banana may be one of these flavors that could get lost once you bake with this. It can be really subtle taste. It always bums me out if that occurs, cause I really like the taste of banana. And so does the hubs.

So when great flavored banana treats come together, we move a little crazy for them.

These cookies make the list of banana items to go crazy for. With no doubt.

And they are so moist, they almost melt in your mouth. In addition, using both oats and banana inside them, they are basically healthy, right? And ideal for breakfast!

Making them is equally as easy as eating them.

You start by mixing all of those lovely ingredients together.

I must warn you. The smell of the mixture -- using the banana -- is equally intoxicating. The hubs was in the kitchen making the dough together with me (we left a deal that contained him baking with me) and we both had to work hard to not place our faces, or even a straw, right into it.

Then you add all the ingredients (which usually means you simply use one bowl -- yay!) And mix it all together!

To bake themspoon about a tablespoon of dough and produce a thick disk, as opposed to a chunk. They spread somewhat after baking, and therefore don't place them too close together. Bake them for about 10-12 minutes for a nice, moist cookiecutter. So yummy!

1 additional thing I really like about this recipe is where it came out.

My grandma (my father's mother ) passed out in 2008. After I started baking a lot a couple of years back, my uncle gave me cookbook he'd had and didn't use. I've had it in my list to produce a number of her desserts since.

It was a custom for my grandmother to make them each Christmas! She also gave everyone a large tin of them, which has been quite a feat with 6 sons.

I know just how much of an effort it was! My goodness. She made them with a conventional gaufrette iron which goes over a open fire. My dad and I had them on the cooker. They cook very quickly and you have to be precise. Too long and they kind of disintegrated into the iron. As long and they burned into the iron and we all needed to wash it out.

My father was pouring the batter and removing the cookies, I was working the ironthe hubs was timing things. It required quite a few attempts to get it , but they were so great! I have tried to make them on my own and it works. I would love to share the recipe, however, the dang irons are so tough to discover. And pricey. At some point, I'd like to just earn a cookie with the same gaufrette flavor.

For today though, I'm sharing these cookies. I don't believe I ever had them made thembut they're from her book.

It is such a fun recipe book to check through, also. There are many handwritten pages, clippings and newspaper recipes which were taped into the publication. I like the way they used to compose recipes in the newspaper -- they'd the individual who filed it's name and cute little stories. It's so enjoyable to browse through them! What another time in the world!

Anyways, I do not know where this recipe came out. The newspaper appears like it was on a flier out of their square dance group or something (they were big into square dancing). It is undoubtedly from West Virginia, in which they lived.



In any event, I am so happy to finally share a recipe out of her book with you! I made a couple of adjustments to make them thicker and puffier and they are delicious. There will be more to come from her recipe book, but for now enjoy the banana.

INGREDIENTS:

3/4 cup salted butter, softened (I use chalk Butter)

1 cup brown sugarpacked

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract



1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking soda

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

2 tsp cornstarch

3 cups old fashioned oats

5. Spoon tablespoons of dough onto a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper. Flatten dough just a little bitinto thick disks. They will disperse a little when boiled.

7. Remove from oven and read here cool on cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes, then proceed into cooling rack to finish cooling.
